Hanover. Customers and their needs have always been the focus of everything Mercedes‑Benz does. As the inventor of the light commercial vehicle and a driving force for innovation in the van segment, the brand with the star has spent 130 years putting its entire know-how consistently at the service of its commercial customers. Through innovative, tailor-made solutions, the company has continuously paved the way for the evolution of the transport of goods, services and people – delivering greater utility, improved efficiency and enhanced productivity along the way. At this year’s IAA Transportation in Hanover from September 14 to 20, the company is presenting multiple news in hall 13 (exhibition booth C51).
The new Mercedes-Benz Van Architecture: trade fair premiere of the new electric VLE for shuttle operations
With the new electric VLE, Mercedes-Benz ushered in a new era this year. The Grand Limousine is the first vehicle based on the newly developed, modular and drivetrain-flexible Van Architecture. It combines the best of two worlds: the agility and ride comfort of a Mercedes-Benz limousine with the spaciousness and versatility of an MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle). Thanks to its long range with more than 700 km2,3, 800-volt technology and ultra-fast charging, the VLE is the ideal solution for every journey.
The Grand Limousine stands out with its generous sense of space, unmatched comfort and a wealth of different equipment options, including for individual shuttle use. It offers ample room for five to eight occupants and is available in a variety of seating configurations, with manually or electrically adjustable individual seats or benches in the rear. This also includes a vis-à-vis seating arrangement that’s popular for shuttle services. The VLE thus covers a broad range of applications – from functional entry-level models for hotel, airport and shuttle services to premium variants for exclusive passenger transport.
At IAA Transportation, Mercedes‑Benz is showcasing the potential the VLE also offers for professional use as a shuttle vehicle. As an eight-seater variant with manually adjustable comfort benches, it is an elegant and powerful all-rounder, perfectly suited to the demanding requirements of shuttle operations. Two electric sliding doors as standard ensure comfortable entry and exit on both sides. With THERMOTRONIC, an additional two-zone automatic climate control system is available for the rear compartment, helping to maintain a consistently pleasant interior climate in all weather conditions. The separately opening EASY-PACK tailgate makes it easy, for example, to load and unload passengers’ luggage. Thanks to the optional rear-axle steering and a turning circle of just 10.9 metres, the VLE is exceptionally agile in urban environments. To meet the highest customer demands regardless of weather and road conditions, the VLE has also been available to order with 4MATIC all-wheel drive since 8. September 2026.

MB.OS also enables an exceptional infotainment experience and actively supports the shuttle driver with intelligent assistance functions while driving. Thanks to the AI-powered MB.OS, the VLE features the new MBUX with intuitive, personalised operation as well as the MBUX Virtual Assistant1 with generative multi-agent artificial intelligence (AI). The VLE already comes with extensive safety and assistance systems4 as standard. With the optional MB.DRIVE packages, cooperating steering, braking, acceleration and parking can further relieve the driver, providing even greater comfort and confidence in daily shuttle operations.
Mercedes-Benz Germany offers dedicated shuttle packages for the VLE in the German market. The packages include attractive terms for professional passenger transport operators.
The “BOuLDER”: A glimpse into the future of Mercedes-Benz commercial vans
With the striking, expressive sculpture “THE BOuLDER”, Mercedes-Benz Vans is providing visitors to the trade show an impressive outlook on the next generation of its commercial vans. Measuring 6.50 metres in length, 2.75 metres in height and 2.50 metres in width, the stone-textured sculpture hints at how the company is reinventing the van once again. It symbolises the significance of commercially used vans and brings together art and craftsmanship in a fascinating way. Milled from a single solid block, the sculpture reveals the outlines and first design details of the future Sprinter. On the passenger side, the contours of a midsize van, also based on the new Van Architecture, emerge as well.
Based on the new Van Architecture with MB.OS, the vans with the three-pointed star will become even more efficient, intelligent and versatile. They will be available with both fully electric and high-tech combustion-engine drivetrains. The new midsize and large vans are currently being developed in close cooperation with commercial customers from different industries, ensuring they are consistently tailored to their needs and requirements. This is reflected, in part, in the new design, which “The BOuLDER” sculpture already hints at. In future, the Sprinter will continue to be available in numerous length, wheelbase and weight variants, making it tailor-made for a wide range of configurations and industry-specific conversion and bodywork solutions.
Going forward, the AI-powered MB.OS will also enable over-the-air updates1 of the entire vehicle software, including driving assistance systems, in the commercial vehicle sector. This keeps every van up to date for years to come, much like a smartphone that can be regularly equipped with new apps and extended features. MB.OS also offers maximum flexibility and the ability to seamlessly integrate content from external providers. This allows commercial customers to make their own applications and essential tools – for fleet management or navigation, for example – directly accessible in the vehicle via the MBUX multimedia system. The enhanced connectivity helps customers to digitalise their own processes even further and connect them to existing systems, unlocking additional efficiencies in their day-to-day business. This gives customers even greater freedom to use their systems in the vehicle exactly as they need to.

Stay connected: Digital Extras and fleet management for optimised uptime
With Digital Extras1 in every vehicle and powerful connectivity services for the fleet, Mercedes-Benz Vans offers seamless digital connectivity – from vehicle diagnostics to fleet management. The Digital Extra Mercedes-Benz Van Uptime Monitor6 is the centrepiece for higher vehicle uptime and predictable repair effort. It is available free of charge for all commercial midsize and large Mercedes-Benz vans. After all, any vehicle that cannot be on the road costs time and revenue. Via a digital customer dashboard7, Van Uptime Monitor provides full transparency on the technical condition of the vehicles and helps customers efficiently plan necessary workshop visits, avoid unplanned downtime, and get straight to resolving technical issues that arise at short notice.
For fleet managers, the Mercedes-Benz Fleet Pilot serves as a central control hub: the web-based portal offers real-time vehicle data, maintenance management, location tracking and geofencing, as well as detailed trip logs. Alternatively, the Mercedes-Benz Fleet API enables seamless integration of vehicle data into existing fleet management systems – modular and scalable for fleets of any size. This means Mercedes-Benz Vans offers the right digital solution for every use case.
Be electric ready: enabling e-mobility for every customer
Alongside a constantly growing portfolio of electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz supports its customers with comprehensive consultation, intelligent planning and tailor-made charging solutions as they electrify their fleets. The new Mercedes-Benz eCharging Planner includes intelligent planning and analysis tools, such as the charging infrastructure planner. It analyses the energy requirements of a potential electric fleet, checks the existing power supply and recommends the appropriate charging infrastructure. It also identifies the relevant installation requirements and calculates the break-even point as well as the costs for vehicles, charge points and charging infrastructure. The charging infrastructure planner is brand-independent – ideal for businesses with mixed fleets. For the final implementation of the charging solution, the specialist partner ChargePoint provides support.
For charging on the go, Mercedes-Benz offers its customers access to one of the largest charging networks in the world with MB.CHARGE Public1,6. The company offers a broad portfolio of leasing and financing options, including conversion and bodywork solutions as well as service and insurance packages, all from a single source.
